“Mirrors is a dreamscape where music, movement, text, digital painting and the raw explosiveness of the two performing artists converge in an unforgettable world. Using their shared classical music training as a launching point, Mirrors both challenges and accepts rules in pursuit of freeing the voice that seeks to be heard.
Including original text and adapted text from Lewis Carroll’s Through the Looking Glass, this 45 minute duet is a most unique version of the triple threat, its two performers moving, singing, speaking as though in a kaleidescope. Performed by two unforgettable performers with a combined 40-plus years of experience experimenting with form and sound.”
Mirrors has been presented at the prestigious Koerner Hall and will part of the Springworks Festival in Stratford, Ontario. In 2016 Mirrors was awarded with a grant from Ontario Arts Council.

Itzel Conde performing Simphonya Spagnola by E. Lalo at the Wiener Saal, Bad Gastein
From 27th July to 10th august I had the honor of being part of the faculty at the International Festival and Master Course Music in the Alps in Bad Gastein, Austria. It was a wonderful experience of making music at it’s highest level among amazing teachers and students. It was 2 weeks of practices, concerts, rehearsals and lectures in the austrian alps where nature seemed to whisper to us it’s more profound secrets. It remained me the importance of being aware of the profound relationship between nature and music.
Among my students I had the pleasure to work with the talented Itzel Conde who came directly from Mexico City. We worked the principles of The Conscious Musician regarding the daily practice and her relationship with music and stage performance. The worked she did in 2 weeks was outstanding and her performance at the Gala Concert was full of expression and great technique. Congratulations Itzel!
I am glad to share her experience at the Festival:
“Music in the Alps was a magical experience for me. I feel refreshed and happy. It changed my life. It was very demanding and the teachers were committed with our deep learning. To be among great musicians and with high level students inspired me and changed my relationship with music and life. Thank you very much to Paulina Derbez for being there everyday and for open my eyes to a whole new world of learning. Thanks too because some of the lessons were a long walk to the forest talking about new ways of making music and practicing in this beautiful place. Without a doubt the methodology of The Conscious Musician has had a huge impact in my life. I hope more and more musicians and artists can find this way of making music and art.”
Music in the Alps what an amazing and life changing experience!
A special thanks to the wonderful artistic director Irena Portenko!
Last spring I had the honor of working with very talented musicians from the Campeche Symphony at the Cultural Institute in Campeche, Mexico. We worked with the strategies of The Conscious MusicIan for daily practice and performance. The results were wonderful. Here some comments from the participants:
“Two weeks ago I had the pleasure of taking the master course The Conscious Musician with the professor Paulina Derbez. I enjoyed very much the positive vision to encounter our fears and other aspects regarding music performance on the stage. What I have learned from the course it will take me to be a better violinist and more important to enjoy in a deeper way every musical piece I perform”
“This is the first time in my career that I learned how to prepare physically and mentally before my performance which it took me to another level of interpretation. I felt a deeper and relaxed connection with my instrument which had a very positive impact on my posture and sound projection. I learned the importance of having a clear sonic map in my mind before playing the pieces. It was a wonderful experience that had a very positive impact on my performance and life!”
