The basic principles of this type of study are as follows:

PHYSICAL PREPARATION: It is recommended that the student realize relaxation and tonification exercises, appropriate to his/her age, before studying. In doing so, the student not only acquires the muscle-tone necessary for studying the instrument without strain, but also increases his/her capacity for concentration.

EMOTIONAL PREPARATION: It is important for the student to be aware of the feeling he or she wishes to express when performing the musical piece being studied. In this respect, the teacher guides each student differently, as the emotional dimension of the student is explored in a different way with each one, depending on age and temperament. The process of visualization, i.e., visualizing a mental image of Nature related to the musical piece being studied, is essential to the successful expression of a specific emotion in performing the piece. In this way, the student can develop a deeply authentic musical interpretation, as a specific mental image corresponds to a specific emotion which will elicit the required physical action to perform the piece.

MENTAL PREPARATION: The student should mentally review the piece being studied, contemplating the sound and expressive character of the music. The student will thus become clearly focused on what he or she wants to hear when performing the piece. At the same time, technical problems can be addressed in the first instance at the mental level. For example, if the student has a problem with a change of position of the left hand, the first thing to do is to visualize him/herself realizing this change in a precise and relaxed way. Through such visualization before physically performing the piece, the student will have acquired the self-confidence necessary to execute the change successfully.

OBJECTIVES OF THE METHOD OF STUDY:

To learn to solve problems in a healthy and creative way

To enjoy studying a musical instrument

To eliminate fear of “making a mistake”

To develop a harmonious relationship between musician and instrument on physical, emotional and mental levels

To develop a firm and balanced physical posture, which is fundamental to play a musical instrument well

To forge a connection between the world of music and the internal world of the student so that tension-free and authentic interpretation of a musical piece is possible.

GENERAL PRINCIPLES The daily study of the instrument is based on the Integral Development Course of musical instruction.
